by -  Levi Curtis Thursday, 24 March 2011, 01:48 PM
What was I expecting Llanbedr to be like?
I thought it would be an easy few days for me and just the odd bit of exercise.
What was it like for you?
I had a great time at Llanbedr and it was very exciting, I'd love to go again or to linet clough next year.
What did you learn about yourself?
I learnt that iam capable to work with others without falling out and how to acheive my goals by not giving up. I also learnt that iam able to work in a kitchen and work well as a team on the high ropes.
Have you changed since attending Llanbedr?
My Attitude has changed towards public services since Llanbedr because i now know more of what the services are looking for in an individual person. I havn't really changed much since i left though but i just know what to expected of on this course.
Reflect on your learning and experiences from Llanbedr.
Iam glad that i did well on the high ropes because i managed to get to the top. I also felt really good going first on the leap of faith. canoeing was also really good i learnt how to flip the boat with a partner.

The Morning Fitness Session

Kane O'Brien - Wednesday, 9 March 2011, 10:39 PM
Whilst at Llanbedr we developed many skills - communication, teamwork and leadership which are key skills that are used in all uniformed services, this is why Llanbedr is a good place to develop skills. It is also good because we get to experience what life is like in a uniformed service. The area surrounding Llanbedr is suitable for navigation training and canoeing I was able to experience both activities as well as high ropes course which helped my teamwork, leadership and communication. I also gained a Bronze award for navigation.

Learner Comment - Elouise Taylor, Danielle Spiers, Sylwia Marzuchowska

Since attending Llanbedr our communication skills have improved greatly because of the activities that we have had practised.

Our confidence and determination has also improved when doing the high ropes course, as some of us were scared of heights but have still put the effort in to get as high has they can.
As a result of the morning runs for our fitness levels have improved.

We have learned how to live with one another and about each other.

Day 4 : NCFE Llanbedr

Learners' preparing meals
I came to Llanbeder to assist with the NFCE's residential, generally to help out in any way I could, making sure the NCFE's got the most out of the experience. During the past week's long days and short nights, me along with the NCFE's have managed to fit a lot in. Cooking everyday, preparing three full meals. After which the NCFE's wash up and clean down the kitchen (working on a rota system). On Tuesday I went out with Richie Wilson, a recruitment officer for the RAF to complete my 3 mile run in preparation for the RAF regiment, only going out again with him the next day along with a few NCFE's, who were up for the challenge. This time to better my time by a full minute bringing me yet further under the required time. Fitting in with the running theme, I joined in with their morning runs down to the sea, watching the sun rise over the mountains before heading back off to camp.

Throughout my past week here alone, I have seen the progression, both as a team and individually amongst the NCFE's. As a team they have gelled, and have begun to understand just how important it is, in this environment to pull together in every aspect of living. Being selfish, not looking at the bigger picture never pays off. Individually the learners have realised things about themselves they have never realised before, growing in confidence as well as understanding.

High Ropes Confidence Training and Teamwork

Llanbedr by Craig Laurie - Thursday, 3 March 2011, 08:59 PM

As a result of coming to Llanbedr I've learnt allot about myself. I completed the high ropes which I thought I would never be able to do. But on Jacobs Ladder I reached the top, which was really high up, I'm very proud that I did that.

The Canoeing course was was amazing because it was a perfectly gorgeous day, with very little wind which made me relaxed and happy. I found it funny when Dave fell in after balancing on the edges of the canoe but did well getting back in the boat afterwards.

On Wednesday we did a TAB (Tactical Advancement to Battle) a run for a long distance without stopping, which we didn't get far on Wednesday but on Thursday we made it all the way to Shell island before the sun came up and that gave us the chance to watch the sun rise over the mountain that is east to our camp NACATC Llanbedr(National Air Cadet
Adventure Training Centre Llanbedr) which was a spectacular moment.
I've also learnt allot about military life with room inspections and how every inch has to be spotless which we failed first time round but on the last inspection we all passed which were all glad about(phew). I hope we still get the opportunity to come next year because it's been a brilliant week and an amazing camp

Llanbedr by Levi Curtis - Thursday, 3 March 2011, 11:50 PM my week at llanbedr

I really really enjoyed my time at Llanbedr as it has gave me a good overview of what Linet Clough will be like, which I will go on to next year.

I did alot of teamwork activities, such as Canoeing, running, walking, map navigation, kitchen duties, guard duty... and lastly room inspection!

I have definitely picked up allot of experience, of what a uniformed service expects from you.

Llanbedr by James Cope - Thursday, 3 March 2011, 08:29 PM

Wow Llanbedr is one amazing camp I have to say before I came to wales I wouldn't have been able to climb the high ropes and do the squadded run. But now I have proved that I am able to do both, and I have learnt how to work as a team with my mates.

Day 1 and 2 : NCFE Llanbedr

Finding our Feet and whats to do at Llanbedr

Learner Comment

The travel up to Llanbedr was enjoyable, it took us four and a half hours as we arrived at Llanbedr, we fell in in three ranks as they assigned us to our rooms. We had a few minutes to unpack then it was time for a run to the beach just off shell island harbour. We have been split into two teams the Vampires and the Hurricanes we had a bit of a competition on the beach doing some various relay type challenges.

The second day of Llanbedr the vampires went off site and did some canoeing on lake Llyn padarn the hurricanes stayed on camp and did general duties and high ropes. We were in the canoeing group we learnt a lot about the canoe , paddle and even the safety kit. It was great fun we all enjoyed it and can't wait to go again. So far we are all enjoying our time at Llanbedr we are even enjoying the PT. We hope that all other groups that come here have as much fun as we are having.

Daniel Fellows - Thursday, 3 March 2011, 07:53 PM

Coming to Llanbedr has changed me, before I came to Llanbedr I was lazy and had no confidence. But since I have been here a week I have started to become more independent and confident. I have learnt lots of new skills such as map reading. I learn about pacing and how to use the map and compass properly. I am extremely proud of myself as I have gained my bronze navigation award today.

I have learnt alot about discipline and uniformed service routines. We have had room inspections every day and had to clean the kitchens toilets and bedrooms. In order to get this done in time we have had to work together as a team. I feel that this camp is good because you learn new skills and also teaches you things that will help me when I join my chosen service, the things that i have learnt will also help me in civilian life as well.

Llanbedr is good because we have been away from our normal life's and have had to do things for our self instead of our parents doing everything for us. I don't have to do much chores at home were as here at Llanbedr I have done cleaning, cooking, looking after kit, getting things prepared for the next days activities and if that wasn't enough I have also participated in activities such as canoing, high ropes, walking and navigation.

I have learnt how to be confident in who I am and how to commit myself to a given task. Doing the high ropes I felt really scared at first but the rest of my group shouted at me and gave me the confidence to get to the top. In order to get to the top we had to pull each other up the various poles the gaps got bigger and bigger the higher up we went. Once at the top i felt extremely proud of myself and my team all manage to get to the top were as other groups didn't get that far. The staff at llanbedr are very help full and will push you to do everything even when at times you want to give up.
